Since June 2007, Fnac Logistique opens its doors each year to some 40 9th-grade students from Gerard Philipe Secondary School in Massy. The two Fnac Stores in the neighbourghood, of Thiais and Villebon, take also part in the project. Volunteer staff welcome the children and make them discover his/her job: each student follows her/his sponsor all day long and talks about her/his professional career and experience.
Among the 23 jobs proposed, some are familiar, like restaurant, security or retail, but the most part is quite unknown by the young people, like planification, orders preparation, projects engineering.
The aim of the project is to make business and school worlds meet in order to help the youngest to choosing their future job. This action is mainly targeted to the students from underprivileged areas, who completely lack any point of reference concerning the professional environment.
Through the special relationship to their sponsors, students experience the labor world, which become real, with its rules, its schedule and its friendly moments. "Students, especially those facing real difficulties at school, feel highlighted as an adult is paying great attention to them” explains the Responsible for general and professional teaching.
The 60 employees who take part in this action really enjoy to share information about their job and advice with the children.
At the end of 2006, SolidarCité made Fnac Logistique and SolidarCité Redcats teams meet eachother: this action had been organised for 3 years in the North of France, in partnership with a secondary school in Roubaix. After this meeting, Fnac team decided to set up the same project with a secondary school in Massy.
Year after year, the number of welcomed students, as well as the number of jobs proposed grow up. Complementary activities are set up to train students to the professional life: workshops to write a Curriculum Vitae or a motivation letter, simulations of job interviews.
