  • NGO Partnership
  • / 2010
Field Sexual abuse
Country Philippines
City Makati City
Beneficiaries Young unwed women, victims of abuses, neglect and/or abandonment, with their babies
Number of beneficiaries Between 200 and 500

Context

Violence against women is widespread in the Philippines, despite of the Anti-Violence Against Women Act (2004), that criminalizes physical, sexual, and psychological harm or abuse to women and their children and despite of the relatively low statistics (6,905 cases reported cases in 2008, (NCRFW). The violence against women includes sexual harassment, as well as human trafficking, forced prostitution, domestic violence and marital rape (WHO – Health Cluster Toolkit 2008).
It’s alarming that cases of young unwed mothers with their babies are increasing and very few institutions take care of them, even if no clear statistics was established in the Philippines.
